AUX ipod is done.
Discussion
Just finished fitting the aux lead (proper BMW one £39)
I have put the jack plug next to the ciggy lighter socket and it works a treat.
When you press the mode button, you get, radio-cd-tape-aux and the sound is great. Just the same as a cd.
Easy to control from the ipod on a lead and its all nicely hidden away when not in use.
Took me about 30 mins to fit and was a doddle.

Its an 2005 X5 with tv/nav screen.
Tape, radio, cd all still work.
I think that all bmw's are pre wired to accept the aux in. Its only a £80 odd option when you buy but they fit it into the glove box which is a bit useless, especially if you use the 'box to keep stuff in!!
The lead is a standard BMW part.
no. 65 12 0 153 503 for my car. It just plugs straight into a socket at the back of the nav screens wiring.
East peasy.
Oh and you want a 6mm hole.

Wasn't there a cut-off time for which sat nav units would work with the aux input? Mine's a late '02 52 plate 330i sport touring with the cassette behind the screen and changer in the boot. If it will work, I'll be getting one next week...
