X5 & M3

Hi folks just looking at buying a X5 and a E46 M3 at the moment, looking to buy about 2003/4 X5 but i cant seem to find a 3.0d in my price range, but there seems to be a lot of 3.0i's about can anyone tell me what the difference is ? obviosuly petrol and diesel im aware of that , but what the difference in MPG and the spec ?

And now onto the M3 , what sort of MPG will E46 M3 get ?

I think the spec for the 2 3 litre X5's will be the same, the diesel is a cracking engine.

The fuel consumption I got out of an E46 M3 was around 26/27 mpg.
