Ive just got back from collecting my new Z4 Coupe.

The car looks fantastic but unfortunately the leather on the drivers seat has some damage to it.

my question to people that have coupe's is "Do you find the cabin incredibly hot". The demo car I had wasn't too hot but I just got back in and wanted my 318i back.

Fuel consumption at 30.3 Mpg is great, particularly when you think my 318i was doing 31.

I haven't noticed the cabin being too hot (although I usually just leave the aircon on "auto" mode and let it do its thing).

Congrats on the new arrival! We must sort out the Coupe get-together...

Congrats. Lovely car.

As said above, if the car is brand new then take it back and demand that they sort it. The car should be faultless when you take delivery.

It was OK this afternoon when I went out in it, but it wasn't as sunny as it was earlier on.

You'd be surprised how many knocks, bumps and bruises a brand new BMW can arrive with, alarming really, not sure what is sais about quality control. As suggested make sure to get them sorted. We once had a chap who bought a Mini, wasn't happy with the gearbox, made such a fuss, a good thing, and got a new car out of it. I'm not sure what they do at Thorn when they carry out a pre delivery inspection because these faults should be picked up and fixed. The dealer should also check the car to make sure it's perfect before delivery.

Edit - By the way, lovely car

Well I do know that this car was originally with a dealer in Wales and it was shipped (I believe) to Thorne for inspection and onward transmisson.

I have to say my 3 series was perfect on delivery and the X5 was about 99.9% perfect. This one sadly isn't and I have to say it has taken the shine off the experience a little.

I still will buy another BMW though and from the same dealer because they are very good.

Well lets put it another way. I believe the outside temperature today was around 12/13 degrees. I had to have the aircon on less than 18 degrees to be comfortable in the car. As a comparison an hour beforehand I was travelling in the 3 series with a cabin temperature of 21 degrees.

The cars are inspected and any faults found at Thorne are rectified to a very high standard, but it doesn't stop damage after forwarding. FYI, Thorne also handles RR and they do have some very competent staff.

I've purchase new BMW's with similar issues, usually if the car's been in the showroom, which have subsequently been speedily resolved. Hope this is the case for you too Catherine.

Very true. We once had a salesman who managed to damage the leather and curb all four wheels on his way to delivering a car! Fortunately I have only had good, no very good experiences with purchases but saying that faults do still get through the net, for example we once had a 330, on the drivers side was the standard BMW embossed sill plate on the other side was an ///M plate! Or, missing towing eye covers, small dings/scratches, torn/nicked dash boards etc. but this can also be due to how/where the cars are stored with the dealers and how much care the valeters take. I do appreciate Thorn work to very high standards after having a tour of the operation.

Your car looks great, I do find I have the temp lower in this car than any other, i put it down to the size of the cabin, but its not an issue with auto a/c, once you get the issues sorted you will love it. enjoy

I haven't noticed that the cabin is particularly hot? I tend to have the aircon set at about 20ish or less sometimes and it seems ok?

Sorry to hear that there's damage to the car though, its always such a shame when this happens when buying a 'new' car, I remember going to pick up my Clio 172 Cup and finding a badly curbed alloy (with subsequent tyre damage!) and a dent on the rear panel, I got it sorted out but if it had been pdi'd properly it wouldn't have been an issue. I think sometimes dealers are just so keen to shift cars the attention to detail goes out of the window sometimes, which is a shame, especially when buying something like a Z4 coupe.

I hope you get it sorted out so you can really enjoy it. They are great cars.

Well I've been out and about in it today and it is very nice.

I took it over to the dealer to explain I wasn't very happy with the damage and a number of other PDI related items. In all fairness they have taken photos of the damage for BMW GB and have said the car can go back in a week on Monday for everything to be looked at.

Today the outside temperature was about 9.5 and to be comfortable the dial had to remain in the blue section below 18. I am hoping they do find something wrong (perhaps with a sensor) or as a last resort I might have to get pentagon to tint the door glass with a legal tint but something that hopefully stop the cabin heating up as much as it is at the moment.

You won't be dissapointed. Mine has only done about 150 miles and is pretty rapid even though it is running on 95 ron dealer supplied fuel. I have been using the sport button today and I quite like that, I think I shall leave that on all the time. This is not something I did with the Boxster as it made the ride far too hard and unforgiving.

I can't beleive the small damage problems you have had- good luck with getting those sorted.

Today when I was out with the roof down I though 'i'll miss the cabrio when I get the Z' have you felt that yet???

Yes see my thoughts on cabin temperature, it is very warm inside although I am hoping it is a fault with my particular car that can be put right.
