What is it like? Does it enable you to access all of the menus through the steering wheel buttons? Where does the info get shown?

The ipod interface kit allows you to access the menus etc using steering wheel buttons just depending on what car and spec, the ipod aux connector just lets you listen

I was advised by a dealer that the technology is still in need of some help. He was given a car for a week to critique the ipod set up. If he wanted to scroll to Z (er, ZZ Top) via the steering wheel it proved painfully slow and took him almost 10mins to go through a 4gb ipod. It's nothing like scrolling via an ipod itself.

I have tested 3 different types of ipod connection for my X5 and am just about to go out and fit the aux cable.

The "others" (dension etc) are ok but as other poster says, very slow to use. In the end I figured it would be easier to just plug in the ipod when you want to listen and then control it as if you had headphones in.

This is what I did in my last car and i think its safer as you can lift the ipod to your line of sight when searching and thats got to be better than looking at the s/wheel or radio.

I'm going to take a few pics and post up a little "how to" guide later on.

I've tried to use an Aux cable but found it too fiddly to control the iPod directly on the move. I now use the Harman Kardon "Drive & Play" www.harmankardon.com/drive-1/default.aspx?Language=ENG&Region=EUROPE&Country=GB which does what it says on the tin - you can control the iPod without taking your eyes off the road as the display sits on top of your dash. Top kit - the only small failing is that the interface does not recoginse the "Podcasts" category and so you have to create playlists for your podcasts - no big deal.

I almost forgot - it works via the Aux in on the amp or via an inline aerial adapter for those of use with older model BMW's!
