Hi, got 320d automatic touring, not had it long and i love it.
I have just finished fitting sat nav/tv rear screens and dvd player, i love the car !!!!But!!! i keep getting vibrations when i am just feathering the throttle once i have achieved my speed and if i acelerate softly the vibrations are horrible, but if i am to floor it there is nothing????? it seems as if something is out of ballance like propshaft, gearbox, diff??? hope someone out there can shed some light as i dont want to get rid of it. thanks

When you are at the required speed, shift it into neutral and play with the throttle, does it still do it?

Hi, how will the flywheel do this, could it be the torque converter.
thanks

Hi,

Few questions-what year is it,what speed are you at when the fault occurs,is it on light throttle(basically maintaining a speed)what rpm does the fault occur at,does the vibration echo through the car,is it worse hot or cold?

I may have the answer if you answer correctly to the above.

Hi, its 2003, it can happen at low speeds but not a harsh vibration, and yes its worse on light throttle, when you floor it, it seems as you are driving through the problem rarther than letting it vibrate, there is not a set rpm that the problem comes on at i dont think, and i am sure when its hot ie been driving it for a good half an hour it dose not happen as often and sometimes you actually forget about it, and finaly yes it echos through the car quite badly.
hope you can help. thanks

If the propshaft coupling,suspension,n/s rear chassis-subframe mount area, wheels all check out to be ok,then the fault could well be with the gearbox(torque converter)

I have had 2 in the last 6 months, with a loud noise with a vibration that echos through the car(can be felt through the seat back, centre console).
These vibrations mainly happened at 40 mph ish any road where you either gradually come up to the speed and feather the throttle when the speed is reached or you come down from a greater speed to 40mph and maintain with light load. The best way I could replicate it was on a straight road with a slight incline.
It would also be in the rev range of 1500 to 2200rpm ish.

If this is the case(I can only go by description)Then it could be the gearbox on the threshold of gear change 4th-5th gear.

The torque converter clutch control is opening and closing rapidly which is what can be felt and heard-its meant to switch once.

If this is the complaint then the only way forward is to go to a dealer. They would obviously want to carry out diagnosis first. But if they come to the same conclusion then there is a software update/reprogram for the DDE which controls the torque converter clutch that they can carry out(if they look at PuMA-technical there is a case about it).
The program is the last resort and will hopefully iron out the over control of the converter, however it does not always remedy the fault-if it doesnt then a PuMA case will be sent to technical and will probabely result in a replacement of the tourque converter.

hopefully that helps

Sorry meant T/C, as stated check the prop shaft donut and also the center bearing.

Hi mate, sent you an e mail ?i think? not got the hang of this site yet? basicly went out in the car today and the vibration comes on between 1500rpm to 2000 poss a bit more.
will see if i can get it booked in to bmw or see if i can get hold of a torque converter to try and will fit it my self.

Make sure everything else is ok before diving into the tourque converter first, just in case its the prop or somthing simple.

The DDE will need to be update regardless if you fit a torque converter becuse its the program that causes the fault.

Havent checked my emails for ages-i'll have a look tonight
