Hi all!

My second post so hello to everyone!

Now my problem, i had an 320d Sport on a 53 plate, great car, no rattles or squeaks and bomb proof apart from turbo replacement under warrenty.

So i liked that one alot and didn't fancy E 90 and bought 06 320cd sport.

The build quality does not feel as good at all, anyone else found this?

My coupe has an annoying rattle from the parcel shelf area, it's spent two days in the main dealers without a proper fix!

I've spent a few days removing parts and padding things out.

The plastic trim around the opening into the boot when the rear seats are down was creaking, so greased that and padded it out.

Inside the boot where the 6 stack would go was plastic rubbing so sorted that,

Padded out under the cheap plastic covers where the rear belts go in to stop rubbing there.

Padded out the spare wheel well and it is still creaking somewhere, faint rattle that is sometimes louder in the parcel shelf.

Anyone else had these problems or is my car just a shed?

I've inspected the boot floor and seems and it doesen't look like it's been rear ended or anything.

Only had it 5 months and i'm considering selling if i can't cure.

Help please!

p.s is the parcel shelf difficult to remove?

Lee

I've done that, my partner is fed up of driving me around!

I can locate it to the parcel shelf inside somewhere but can't cure it.

Maybe have to remove it but not sure how big a job it is, BMW dealer was supposed to but never did!

Quite often the rattle from the rear tends to be the shock absorber top mounts.

If you lie in the boot put your ear against the side trim near the seat back-if its really audible hear the top mounts.

Is it a distance chatter ie sounds like its in the cabin but not quite-slightly metallic in sound, tends to knock/rattle more frequently over rough ground?

Hey blackspider you could be onto something there, as it does rattle over rough b roads more at slower speeds.

But with you saying that i thought i had cured it Sunday when i was messing but it was pouring with rain, so it may be the rubbers in the mounts maybe? because once the rain stopped and into the next day was dry the rattle squeak came back and it does sound like something rubbing?

So i wonder what the best way to cure that is? maybe jack it up and spray the mounts with Wd 40? It is definetely more audible in the dry weather.

Cheers

The rubber in the mounts tend to overheat and degrade-the way is to replace the mounts and put talc all over the rubber mount and also clean the big washer

Forgot to say its the upper part of the top mount behind the trim panels in the boot

Do you have the HK option ?
If so take a look at the sub mounted under the rear shelf.

Cheers for replys chaps!

I've sorted it now, i took the speakers out of the parcel shelf and i could get right to the back of the shelf, i padded it out and sprayed with WD40, it was the trim near the rear window that was creaking, hey presto sorted!

Blackspider, i lubricated the top mounts also just incase.
