In-Car Phone Problem

Picked up my new 540i at the weekend and have just put a sim card in the reader in the boot. (one in the phone doesnt work).
Found twice now that during a call the phone will sometimes cut out theres a red light on the phone and it doesnt display anything where theres normally the name of the phone company (think it might have been a reception issue though not sure)
If i use the power button on the phone to turn off and then turn on the phone again it reconnects and the phone displayes the operator name but the buttons on the dash - part of the OBC dont work so i cant then asnwer a call etc it just rings and rings.
Is there any way to solve this admittadly minor but annoying issue?
