hello...

I'm thinking about buying an X5 but before i do i have some questions that i'd like to ask...

1. Whats happening about the 4x4 tax? somebody told me this will only be on new 4x4's and not 2nd hand ones? Can anybody let me know whats going to happen?

2. I am looking at the 4.4l V8 Sport. In the figues it says it has a combined mpg of circa 20? Is this true or have other people found it to be a lot lower than this?

3. The car i'm looking at is a 2001 X reg, 55k miles, SatNav TV, 4.4l V8 Sport Auto. Its up for £16,500 - is this a good price?

Thanks in advance for your help.

It seems to be that most of this stuff is only applicable to cars with emisions based VED. hence why i pay less tax for my 1998 Range rover than my mate does for his '03 330i.

You do pay a little more tax but given the age you are looking for I think the tax is about £190. I have the same car and I seem to recall that is the position. However, who knows what will happen in the future, plus it does depend on where you live as some councils are now charging more for car parking permits depending on emissions.

As to fuel consumption we get about 19 day to day pottering around. On longer runs we tend to get 22-23. It also depends hugely on driver and how you feel. If I am in the car by myself (rare!!) then it is easy to get carried away, the engine note is the dogs and very addictive.

So far we have had no major problems, just a minor issue with the CD player.

The price sounds pretty good but the cars are very sensitive to spec and colour. A 4.4 Black Sport with comms pack seems to be the most expensive.

We are considering changing and the wife simply wants to get a newer X5 she is so in love with it.
