Keep seeing the above cars for sale without rear spoilers.

Does this mean they aren't the real deal or was the spoiler merely an optional extra?

TIA

No all 328i Sports came with the rear spoiler as part of the M-Tech kit.

Edit - I guess it could have been removed, obviously, perhaps new boot lid to sort rust problem or accident damage and couldnt stretch to replacing the spoiler.

This isn't true at all, mine is a genuine sport (shown as Sport on the V5 and confirmed by BMW) and it has never had a rear spoiler. I believe it was merely an option.

It is an early edition, so unless they changed the "sport" specification which I am not aware of as it also does not have the alcantara roof lining, mtech steering wheel or gear knob. Everything else seems to be present and correct i.e. wheels, front rear bumbers, side skirts and rubbing strips. Could always get the vin and check with BMW.

Edit - well I've learnt something new today

This is true, I picked mine up a few days ago and it s rear spoiler-less.

all the e36 328 sportes came with the mtec spoiler but recent trends seem to be taking them off an putting e46 lip spoliers on or e39 m5 lip's on or going for the smooth spoilerless look i know loads of people who've done this on e36coupe.com personally i wouldnd worry about it looks a sweet car same colour as mine

On a slightly different note, my E36 M3 saloon never had a spoiler - it's the only E36 i've ever seen without one.

Was this a factory delete option?

I'm not sure I have seen an E36 M3 Saloon with a spoiler. My ex boss's didn't have one, neither my friends.

Ooh tidy

Very nice and clean.

I personally feel the coupe looks a bit naked without a spoiler on the back. Although I've never really like spoilers and stuff, I think it does suit the E36 shape.

Its also a very useful thing when cornering at 140mph (in Germany) with an Exige welded to your arse (which btw said afterwards that he wouldn't have had the grip or pace to have gone past - he was at his limit )

You really can feel it hunker down with it on, I wouldn't like to try it without.

I'd hazard that the E46's have better negative lift aerodynamics than the E36 and hence only needing a lip spoiler like the E39s.

I know people don't like spoilers sometimes, but BMW generally only stick stuff like that on if it actually makes a real difference...

Thanks chaps, I'm so pleased with it.

I actually agree about the spoiler Neil - know where to get one from? Are they easy to fit?

Loads of places do them, spoilers that is. Pick up a copy of BMW Car or Total BMW and you'll be spoilt for choice. Also Fab Direct (breakers) are very good and provide mail order. I believe the spoilers are bolted and bonded. HTH
