Just wondering how good they are and what functionallity they offer.

If you have 50 odd albums on your pod, is it not tricky to click through them all to find the one you want?

Thx
G

ps. I have the widescreen tv/nav and its a 2005 X5 3.0d

I have the preceeding model number and the answer to your question is yes it is a bit tricky, hence you use playlists or select all albums and select random play.

Otherwise yes you have to cycle though in alphabetic order A-Z or Z to A.

I wonder if it was improved on the upgraded 400 series?

I am thinking that it may be simpler to fit a standard aux input jack in the centre armrest and to control the music from the ipod itself. Thats what I had in my last car and it worked fine.

Anyone got the 400 or 500 dension unit?

I've got the Gateway 400 in my X5, my thoughts are as follows:

It was easy to install.
I now have access to 5000 singles
It took a couple of days to understand how it worked as the instructions were crap
It didn't work to start with until I loaded the update which was only available via the help desk
The software interface is crap and you can't for example search by single
I can't view all of the artists for some reason best known to the manufacturer

but....

It's better than nothing!

That Sir, is exactally my point. I'm wondering if it is better (simpler) just to fit an aux input (£50 option and dealerfit) instead. Then you just plug in the ipod and control it from there. You retain the 6 disc changer and can still control the volume from the wheel.

It sounds like it may be the way to go.

Thanks for the help guys.

I have installed and still have the aux cable but a while ago having looked at the iPod to change the track and then looked up I noticed I was just about to drive into the rear of a lorry (which fortunately I didn't!) It was at that point I thought that's enough of that!

It is just about better than nothing but a lot better than the aux cable!
