Car is coming up to 3 yrs old and just had warranty renewal from BMW - the usual £1050 w/£250 excess.

I'm going to change cars soon - probably sell it privately.

Now if I was keeping it, I wouldn't bother renewing the warranty, and take it to independents instead if anything needed doing.

However, my worry is that people will be less likely to buy it privately without a warranty or that I'll lose more than the £1050 warranty cost in car value. I doubt the car will devalue by £1000 if it doesn't have a warranty, but if it makes it easier to sell and I get some of it back, maybe it's worth it.

Opinions?

I wouldn't expect a warranty if I was buying privately. You won't get the money back so why do it?

I dont quite follow that logic. Two cars for sale privately, essentially the same but one with warranty (which is transferable) - even for a slight premium i would buy it.

I wouldn't touch one without a warranty... That said, I wouldn't touch one with a waranty knowing I'd have that much to shell out after 12 months of ownership to keep the warranty running. The warranty charge and the excess are the only reasons that I don't have an E46 M3 sat in my drive right now.
