help or advice req'd clutch jammed

help or advice please guys if possible, i have a 2002 318ci and my missus nearly crashed it yesterday when the clutch just jammed and the peddle couldn't be pressed down,so she could not change gear or knock it out of gear. Its back at home now, the clutch peddle can not be pressed down or engaged and and feels like a pumped up brake peddle, it was working perfectly up until this happened, the car has only done 28000 miles, any comments much appreciated, also anyone recommend a dealer/specialist in north east area who will not take my eyes out, cheers, Ian
