Can anyone help with a power steering problem on a 325Ci SPort 2001 Convertible.

It basically stopped working completely the other day. Seems odd for the pump to go. Does anyone know anything about a recall on the pumps as they had some sort of fault?

Any other ideas what it could be? It's not the belt, have checked that.

Someone mentioned a sensor in the gearbox which detects the speed the car is travelling at which inturn alters the amount of power steering required. Make any sense?

cheers,

Can't see anything about recalls, though you could have a check yourself here... www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/default.asp

I once lost my power steering after the pipe carrying the fluid to/from the pump rubbed through on another component. This was after it was relocated because it was originally too long and wasn't developing enough pressure, the result being a horrible noise when steering under heavy loads such as hard cornering!
