'Old Colonel Cars'
Discussion
Having got bored of the 520i (fantastic car but I have had it for over a year - something of a record) I am thinking about replacing it with the 535i as found at the following website; www.oldcolonelcars.co.uk
First of all any comments on the car and secondly has anybody had dealings with this garage? Would be nice to get some feedback before viewing the car tomorrow afternoon. From the website and a quick chat he seems a 'genuine enthusiast' but we shall see!
BTW I went through the history of the 520 since purchase (quiet day today), completed twenty odd thousand miles and the total cost per mile was 23 pence. It also managed to average 35mpg
. How does it compare with any one else? Or am I the only one sad enough to work this out
!

I dropped in on the way home this afternoon and was pleasantly surprised with the car. The test drive was from cold, the autobox was very smooth, no untoward noises and the kickdown worked well, dropping a couple of cogs if ambling along. The gearbox modes worked too. Oil was clean and no issues with the temperature however the idle was a little uneven but this smoothed out after turning all the lights, fan etc back off! The body work was in good condition however the drivers door has been replaced/resprayed at some point.
Checked the pillars and sills but they seemed fine, no signs of respray or damage. The computer worked and the interior was good however the seat arms were quite badly worn. Mileage checked out with the service history, there was a bit of a gap but the mileage was minimal and the MOT's tie up so not too much of a drama.
Got a good part exchange with the 520, lost £200 over the year with an extra 25,000 miles on the clock so another pleasant surprise!
The dealer was a pleasant enough chap - appeared to be a BMW enthusiast doing it more for pleasure rather than business. Did have some lovely cars as you say but the good ones have all been snapped up . He did promise to let me know if anything interesting comes up. He is expecting an M535 soon and an old 6 series low mileage example that should be worth a look

I have been perusing his website for a week or so now, seems to have nice cars, what model did you buy off him?
eiger, i have received your mail and seen your blog
he had the sunroof repaired it opens and closes fine
no probs on flooding whilst starting so i presume that has also been fixed
the fuel cap deterioting you mention is no longer apparent so i presume that has also been done,i am just finding it a bit sluggish and the clutch is a bit of a nuisance however.
so i think 1100 is pretty fair considering hes had the work done, what do you think

I think for just over a grand it is a good price - not many cars that age have such a comprehensive service history. I part exchanged it for £850 so if he has had some work done his margin cannot be that much.
It will be sluggish off the mark but atleast you can get decent mpg figures, I'm struggling to reach mid twenties in mine now and in town its about 16!
It depends on how long you keep the car as to what you have done to it - if its bothering you that much give Andy a call a see which garages he uses and get the clutch done. It might only be a matter of adjusting the cable.
