Hi folks,

Anybody know what these are like to drive?

Are the autoboxes any good or always changing at the wrong time (could be bad on powerful RWD car eek)

What are the performance specs? Fun to drive?

e34 5 series is a nice motor.

How old is the one you are looking at? You need to make sure the m30 engine has been well serviced though as they can suffer from overheating and oil starvation to the spray bar in the cylinder head.

The autobox isn't bad, a four speed EH. You can select normal, sport and snow modes. If it has been well looked after it should change well and not slurr around.

They aren't that quick as they only put out 218bhp and are quite heavy. Great cruisers though and that straight six sounds fantastic on full chat!

Excellent cars. Buy the best you can afford (with as much history as you can) and you'll not be sorry

Not looking specifically at one at the mo.

Does the autobox dull the experience at all? Seems easier to find an auto but presumably not a whole lot of fun to be had.

What's the 0-60 / ingear / top speed like?

Oh yes, is it definitely a S6 and not a V8?

Early 530 and all 535's are the M30 straight 6 engines. Bullet proof.
All later 530's and all 540's (both from about K plate and all with the wider grills) were V8's. These can have Nicosil issues.

All the auto boxes are excellent. To me they do not dull the experience. In 530 an Auto would be the best option but in a 535, a manual can get exiting but they have so much torque and grunt that an auto box is no problems for it

i have a 1991 535i se auto. Great fun, goes very well and the autobox is fine. I got used to it very quick.
For s big car, they shift rather well, fast enough to upset people who were trying. PLenty of poke for overtakin as well.
Sport on the box holds the gears longer and locks out 4th.
Manual is well manual mode and normal is normal.

Oh and they will cruise at silly speeds.

If your near lincoln let me know.
