all thanks to the brakes this morning, girl stepped out into the road without looking, literally just in front of the car.

Fortunately I was under the speed limit and had seen her, managed to almost stop and just knocked her down (I think one foot further and the car would have stopped). I was very relieved she was ok, a little shocked (and so was I to be honest) Spent most of today thinking about what if I had been over the speed limit (most drive over the 30 limit there as it is downhill), what if I was in my wifes car (brakes not in the same league), what if I had not seen her, etc).

Although she was not hurt I was advised to report the incident to the police, not sure if I needed to - anyone know?

Yeah, report it.

After all, "today's near miss is tomorrow's accident".

the law states all accidents must be reported, though they prob wont care. get the badge no. for the policeman so you dont get arrested 6months later for it!!!

My friend had a car near accident, reported it they didnt write it odwn, they 4 months later wanted to do him for wreckess driving, then when he produced the policemans number they dropped the case !!! never apologised though.
