Got my 530d 3 weeks ago, and really chuffed. Quiet, fast, economical and loads of fun!

Couple of small niggles though:

When you are driving slowly (less than 1100 rpm) and come off the accelarator, you can hear a clunk - can't quite decide whether its the rear diff or whether its coming from the gearbox. Anyone any ideas what it might be?

Also my headlight washers don't seem to work and the lights are getting filthy. Anyone any first steps to get them sorted? I think I can hear the motors going, and there is plenty of water in the washer tank...

I also have the airbag light on - something to do with a sensor under the driver's seat the previous owner told me. I'm sure I've heard that somewhere before, so is it a common fault, and what would be the steps to sort it?

Thanks for your help!!

Clunks on an E39, especially the diesel with all the torque, are usually the rubber coupling at the front of the propshaft. Not too difficult too change and cost around £80 or so. Mine lasted 70K and now at 105K is on the way out again I think. The car is chipped though so the coupling works harder than standard.
Washer pipes to front, rear and headlights are prone to popping apart at the joints in cold weather. Check to see if the water is running out under the car.
Sorting the airbag light is usually a dealer reprogramming job, or at least dealer diagnosis.

If its under the drivers seat then its a seat belt pretensioner loom modification needed-resistance will be too high. But you need to have the MRS memory checked to prove this and then cleard after the repair to put the light out.

Headlamp washer as the last guy said-they leak from the washer ram.Operate and check for leak from the bumper area.

The clonk is a hard one not being able to hear it-depending on how slow you are going it could be the propshaft-this is not a fault as the noise is the propshaft taking up slack or it could be the coupling-havent seen one of those for ages though.
Other quite common causes are the rear lower joints, upper arm joints and antiroll bar links-all suffer with excessive play and that causes clonking

I had a clonking noise at low speed on my 535 turned out it was a front suspension drop link (what ever one of those is) got it replaced and all has been fine since
