I've recently purchased a set of E39 alloys to fit my E34. This is because the 230/55/390 tyres required for the original alloys are around £140 each! yikes

The 225/60/15 tyres required for the newer rims are around £50 each for the brand new (don't laugh) Nankangs I purchased. thumbup

There was an acceptable amount of shake in the steering at speed prior to the wheel change, but now there's an outrageous amount of steering shake from 55mph onwards. I've had them balanced by three seperate garages, and the wheels are definately not buckled. Two garages have checked everything at the front end, and although both reported a couple of minor issues here and there, nothing serious enough to cause the steering to shake that much.

Does anybody here know if there is any difference in the hub size with the E34 and E39?

Does anybody know of anything else that should be checked before I take a large sledgehammer to her! mad

Please see below examples of the wheels in question...

Yes there is a difference in the hub diameter. The e39 has a larger diameter hub than an e34 and this will be causing you problems. However all is not lost. You need a set of these.

Hope this helps

yep, that'll sort your problem out, had the same issues several years ago when I put turbines on the E34 Touring

Excellent news. Enjoy your new wheels and the £50 a pop when you come to replce the 225's rather than the silly metric prices.
