E46 fault codes
Discussion
My missus's E46 broke down earlier this week - the engine cut out suddenly as a result of a faulty camshaft sensor. Luckily the breakdown happened in leafy Richmond and the AA came to her rescue quickly.
I'm a bit miffed that (a) this failure occured only a few months after the warranty expired and (b) there was no way of diagnosing this fault earlier.
Is there any software out there that lets you interrogate the engine management system?? Or is this info restricted to franchised dealers only??
I'm not massively handy with the spanners, but it would be very useful to be able to diagnose (and replace) a failed component before it becomes a problem and stops the car running.
