I think that the blower is still running after the car has been turned off (i can hear the fan spinning) and it's running the battery down. I tried to start the car just now and the battery is dead (again), even though it's been used today.
So i think that i am looking for fuse number 67 and i can't find it in the glove box and it's not in the rear by the battery. Is there another fuse bay where this fuse is located?
thanks
DJ

From memory isn't there another batch of relays under the bonnet, nearside right up by the windscreen ?

Bit dark to go and look now - i'll check in the morning.

Think this could be related to a faulty final stage resistor, which tend to go bad on the E39. Instructions for replacing it (albeit on a LHD car) here: www.540i6.com/finalstagereplacement.html

The heater fan power comes via the 'resistor pack' also known as a 'hedgehog'.
Generally it is this that fails and causes erratic fan speed and/or the fan running on with the engine off.

It is mounted on the right hand side of the heater box under the dash by the bulkhead.

Not another resistor pack...I havent done one for hours!!!

Drivers footwell-drop the side carpet panel down(heater side)and it is pushed into the side of the heater box-has a 5 pin connector on it.The pack is clipped in place, just pust the tabs apart and it slides out.

I think he's refering to the fact that its a common fault.
Take a look inside the glovebox - there's a drop down panel with fuses in it.

£70 for that hedgehog, changed it over in about 20mins with 2 cut fingers and jobs a good-un. the fan no longer spins up when the car is off, so i'm hoping that this has done the job. I will taking the car out tomorrow for a long drive to charge up the battery.
