serious question!! i'm in a real quandary. i've got an m coupe (breadvan thing). love it, but just fancy a change. do i shell out a load more money and go for an m3, or do i get a 330ci for about the same price as my used m coupe?? who's got / had / driven both? is there that much of a difference between the two to justify an extra 8-10k??

OR, now that the m coupe is no longer made, maybe it will become a collectors item and soar in value!!!

by the way, i agree the z3 was pretty horrid, but nobody can say the m coupe is anything other than a beautiful brute of a car, can they??

I've driven both cars.If you can afford it,go for the M3,it really is in a different league to the 330.Period.

depends what sort of driving you do, I do about 40,000 a year so it had to be the 330Ci - automatic.

It is quick - obviously not M3 quick but then I guess I only spend about 0.25% of my time driving fast - and it is very rare to find anything faster than the 330Ci.

I used to have a 330Ci and loved it, but the M3 that replaced it plays in a very different league. It is a much faster, harder-edged car. That said, if you can resist the urge to lower your right foot, it can be driven relatively gently around town.

If you love driving and you can afford the extra, then it has to b ethe M3. Test drive both. The difference will be immediately obvious.

Agree totally with Zod, had a 330ci sport cab now have an M3 cab.

Suspension set up is different, M3 has a wider track, different steering and oh that engine.

The M3 is much more reponsive to driver inputs, better steering, brakes, more grip, really much quicker, sounds and feels more like a track car 8000rpm red line whilst still being almost as civilised. It also has more kit as standard and looks the business.

Autocar
330coupe 0-60 6.7 secs 0-100mph 16.7 secs
M3coupe 0-60 4.8 secs 0-100mph 11.5 secs

330 is good had a slightly better ride and was more economical, but the M3 is in a different class another M powered drivers car offering the raw power of your M coupe with a bit more practicality.

I lived in Frankfurt when I got my first M3 (since stolen) and I used to drive to London and back every couple of months or so. The Frankfurt to Calais part of the trip took over five hours in the 330Ci (including short stops), travelling at well over 100 mph most of the time. In the M3, travelling at similar speeds, I knocked over half an hour off the journey. The acceleration, brakes and high-speed stability are in a different league. In the 330Ci, any speed much over 140 mph was a hold-on-tight experience. The M3 jsut feels in control right up to the (not very strict) limiter.
