I was just thinking about an E36 320 coupe as a cheap runabout seeing as they seem readily available for under £2K and wondered if there are any bolt on turbo kits available to give it a bit of go? If so was wondering how durable the engines are, what power levels can they be boosted to on stock internals etc.

I don't know of any bolt on turbo kits for the E36, tho there might be some in the USA, instead of the 320 try and find a 325 or 328 as they all drink around the same amount of petrol and the 320 is much much slower. It does sound the best of the lot tho......

Ok 325 as a better base then, E36 325 turbo kits? I just had a look at www.active-autowerke.co.uk/turbo.shtml and they are having a laugh with the kit prices especially with an old TD06, £6000 without an ecu! I was thinking a b/b garrett kit whould have been in the £2.5K region + ECU.

Not too sure about turbo kits but i definatly know about supercharger kits as i'm thinking about adding one to my M3. These are a stright bolt-on application with very few internal mods. Can be fitted in a full working day too. Grab hold of the latest BMWCar magazine and you'll notice two companies in there advertising them CA Automotive ( www.ca-at.co.uk ) and Regal Autosport ( www.regal-auto.co.uk ). It may also be worth you contacting the guys at Thorney's ( www.thorneymotorsport.co.uk ). Not delt with them myself but in the magazine's they get a great reviews from the journo's.
