X5 option to buy
Discussion
I punted £500 at a BMW dealer a couple of years ago to get onto the list for the new X5. A few months ago I was told that I was "9th" on the list, and yesterday I was told that with my new brochure and options list I can now set the spec on which the build date will be set. If anyone in the know can help, here are my questions:
- will the spec influence the build date (i.e. are BMW looking to sell the Christmas Tree'd cars first, or the simple cars first, or what)?
- will any particular spec get the car earlier?
- (and if I have to sell the option or the car, money looking a bit dicey right now) will any particular spec be the strongest?
- (and lastly!) if I had to sell the option, is there a good way to go about this and what should I be looking to make?
Thanks to anyone that can help with this exhaustive list of queries!

Hi,
I'm in exactly the same position as you. I put my £500 down about two years ago and my circumstances have changed.
I've spoken to a guy that is just selling his allocation for a Audi R8. Audi have a policy of stopping you selling the vehicle on before you buy it. In other words you have to be the 1st registered owner and the true buyer is the second. I wouldn't be suprised if this is the case with BMW. Not sure how to find this out without giving the game away.
Good Luck
Tim
