I've had a new windscreen fitted (535d) and now the lights stay on all the time and the rain sensor does not appear to work. Anyone else had this problem and is there a solution without going to the dealers.

couple of options, but I think you will need to get the comupter reset to accept the new sensors, thus needing a trip to the dealer.

Assuming the glass company managed to get all the bits connected back up correctly! - it took one company three goes at getting it correct on my Z4 - in the end I just used to go back to the dealer and pay the extra as it wasn't worth the hassle of two (see four) trips.

did they fit the exact right screen.

I believe there are clear panels for rain sensor and light functions.

i would notify the window company that they made a mistake and let them resolve, if they cannot then put in writing that you will expect them to cover the costs of a main dealer resolving the issue

If its a non genuine screen then chances are the blue element bonded on the screen is incorrect-the sensor cant see through the element.
If it is genuine they have either snagged the wiring or bent a pin in the sensor or damaged the sensor.
To reset the sensor it needs to be either put on the BM diagnostic equipment or there is a sequence that can be carried out(cant remeber off the top of my head). When I remember i'll post it

Thanks for the replies, I am told it is a genuine screen, it should be as I had to wait 3 weeks for it.

I was told what the sequence is to reboot the system but have lost the paper I wrote it on. irked BMW say the need to schedule an hours work to fix it, at a crowd pleasing £129 per hour. I wish I was paid the same per hour.

Surely if the car has been returned to you with a malfunction relating to the repair then it is the repairer's responsibility to pay for it.

Cannot prove it was due to the replacement of the windscreen, as I only noticed a fortnight after the screen was replaced. I'm only assuming that it has caused a fault.

wiper pos 1 ingtion pos 2.

wiper switch off

ignition pos 0

ignition pos 1 or 2 and wait for 20 seconds

turn ign briefly to pos 0 then back to pos 1 or 2

That should be it.

If that doesnt work then the fault memory needs to be cleared.

This process including initialising only takes 15 mins top at a dealer!

Give that a try
