I did a load of research a while back about plumbing in my Road Angel without cigarette lighter thingies but also without spending uber cash or not being able to swap it into another car reasonably quickly. Anyway here was my solution...

You know your glovebox torch thingy? Well, in the States, they sell this adaptor...

I got mine from http://eagleday.stores.yahoo.net/5te. they do two types that suit most BMW's

this converts your glove box torch charger into a ciggie power outlet into which you can plug your chosen gadgetry. The REALLY cool bit is that newish BM's only supply power to the torch adaptor when you use your keyless entry button. So you unlock your car, power comes on... Road angel or sat-nav are warming up whilst you are still walking towards the car. All the ugle wires are hidden in the glovebox and you have a few choices on cable route to your gadget, all hidden.

With shipping this adaptor cost about 15 quid.

You can't buy it from a UK stealer. They first try to be smart by telling you it doesn't exist even though you have a BM part no. then they start asking you why you need it etc etc.

Hope that is of some use to some of you guys.

I'm quite chuffed with it to the extent that I am also going to order the...

BMW Lighting Package
The remote lighting technology lets you illuminate your house from inside your BMW – without the clutter of extra remote control units. Two lamp modules allow activation of up to two home lights from your vehicle. It is also operable via the included home controller unit. Utilizes HomeLink® lighting accessories. Requires BMW Universal Transceiver.

So I can switch my porch light on when I pull in to the drive using the garage door buttons on the rear view mirror! How cool will that be. I can hardly contain my excitement.

Kind of.

hey hey

i also like my gadgets.

I'm assuming that this will only work with lamps etc that are plugged in rather than normal hard wired lights?

cheers

Of course, if you have BMW nav there is a piece of software that lets you create a nav disk with integrated camera waypoint warnings. Haven't tried it yet, but its on my list.

Not really. Found the original info on www.e90post.com I believe, and the software may be German in origination. I suspect a good google will sort you out though.
