My brother (Redlined) has recently purchased a 1998 328 sport. He has a problem with the 'boyracer restraint system' otherwise know as ASC.

The ASC light comes on after some tail-happy driving and stays 'on'. A little 'blip' of the back end causes the light to flash but stay 'off'. If the light is constantly lit then it can only be turned off by switching off the ignition.

Also, there is a plug on the inlet manifold which has to be restrained with a cable-tie otherwise it falls off (rubs against the underside of the bonnet) and this also causes the ASC light to illuminate. Is it related and what does it have to do with the ASC system? (Throttle position sensor?)

Thanks in advance

Hmmm, my 97 328SE touring doesnt have the ASC thing -- wondered if it was any good? I guess not!

i can't help sorry but my 328 coupe has it, wasn't keen on the idea of traction control but i don't mind the ASC lets you have a bit of fun before giving a helping hand and doesn't drop the power badly like some other traction systems i've driven with.

can turn it off and when you do the light stays on so the problem maybe a loss wire somewhere?
