CSL without the L???
Discussion
I feel a bit of stranger posting in here (considering my nickname )
But I have a bit of a question.
I've obviously heard of the M3 CSL (who hasn't!) but when walking around my BMW dealer's forecourt recently, I saw a black M3 CS for sale.
What are these cars and how do they compare to the CSL?
Many thanks
Darren

its a csl with a proper manual box and most of the m3 luxuries
Hardly.
As said previously, it's an end of line "Special". It has similar wheels to the CSL, the CSL steering rack and that's about it. It might have the CSL front brakes and steering wheel too.
It doesn't have:-
The engine.
Any of the Carbon fibre parts.(Front bumper, rear diffuser)
The CSL boot lid.
The proper CSL front wheels.
The CSL interior trim.
The CSL bucket seats.
The performance.
The handling.
The value.
You need to go for a drive in both cars, the differences will be more than apparent then. The CSL is a legend already, I can't see that honour being bestowed on the CS.............Ever.

similar wheels.
Yeah, and I think it's important to stress that they are similar in *appearance* only, they're not the uber-lightweight items from the CSL. As far as I can tell the CS is essentially a way of getting on the CSL bandwagon if you can't stump up for the real thing. Can't see the point really, nothing wrong with a stanard M3, the CSL is simply a different idea.
The Standard Specification levels for the M3 CS are based on the M3 Coupe with the addition of the following:
18” Brake discs (as per M3 CSL)
19” Light alloy wheels “M3 CSL Design” - front 8J x 19, 225/40 R19, rear 9.5J x 19, 255/35 R19
More direct steering - steering ratio is set at 14.5 (as per M3 CSL) rather than 15.4 (standard M3)
M Track Mode (as per M3 CSL)
Steering wheel in Alcantara with M Track Mode button (no multi-function steering wheel)
Hand brake lever & SMG gearlever knob (if ordered) in Alcantara
Exclusive interior trim “Alu Tec” (Titanium Shadow trim & Aluminium Shadow brushed trim available as alternatives)
Exclusive exterior colour “Interlagos Blue” (All other M3 exterior colours available as an alternative)
Front Centre Arm Rest.
Due to the M Track Mode button on the steering wheel, there are no multi-function buttons.
The M3 CS receives the 19" M3 CSL Design alloys. Please be aware that these are not the weight-optimised aluminium rims seen on the M3 CSL, but are a new alloy wheel with a similar design.
The 19" M Double Spoke style 67 are available as a no-cost alternative.
Hope this helps

Rear wheels have the same part number, the CS front wheels are probably lighter than the CSL wheels as they are not so wide.
