Hello,

Just a thought at the moment, so feel free not to flame me..

It this possible? they're one of my top 5 cars and have been offered a mint one at a good price, but I really dont like autos.. I dont know anything about BMW, but have access to a workshop and every tool possible, so is it a case of not possible due to parts, or not easy because of finding someone to do the work?

Cheers,

al.

I don't know that much about the 8 Series but I think this conversion would be a nightmare. These things are packed full of electronics, and I think there would be many more components other than the gearbox that would need changed to make this work.

I would think the best solution would be to look around and try to find a nice manual one.

You might seriously struggle to find a manual in anything other than 850CSi form...I don't know what the specific production numbers might be.

IMHO this would, in any event, be a pointless swap, fraut with horrendous difficulty whilst at the sametime ruining any potential re-sale value of the car.

Why not at least try a car with the Adaptive Steptronic gearbox...you might be impressed?!...I was!

This is how difficult it would be to find a Manual Euro RHD 840

840 with M60 4.0L V8 (made 12/93 - 02/96) = 54

840 with M62 4.4L V8 (made 3/96 only!) = 3

So that's only three (3) ever made in manual with the more desirable M62 engine! Against 1470 with Steptronic and M62 engine!

850i with M70 5.0L V12 (made 02/90 - 04/94) = 98

850CSi with S70 5.6L V12 (made 12/92-06/96) = 160

Ironically, that is the very same blue one that was sold a few months ago when it had around 1800 miles on the clock for £30,000...now it's got 2600 miles on the clock and they're selling it for £35,000?! silly

Got to love the euphemistic term for that interior too? "Special Upholstery"! LOL Yeah, "Special" like vomit

Ok...mine has got 21K miles MORE (ooops!) on the clock...but I think I'll stick with it?
