X5 Diesel Oil Consumption

Have just done 500 miles in the X5 and thought we would check the oil.

According to the dip stick the car could take approx 1/2 litre. I appreciate that diesels burn more oil than petrol cars and that a new car will generally use a bit of oil in its early life. Can anyone tell me if our cars usage is a bit excessive?

Average is about 1 lt for a 1000 miles.

Maximum permisible oil consumption is 0.7 lt for every 629 miles thats from BMW.

Blimey, I had better buy oil in big packs then.

if its a brand new car see how it goes until its run in, if it continues then take it to the dealer...
