Hi,

Does anyone know if this works? I really dont like the ride of my 18" with run flats (or the look of them for that matter!)

A friend of mine has just purchased some 21" Hartge alloys for his E60 M5 and the 19" wheels are there for the taking, however i have been told they will rub on the front arches. Will be trying them out on the car at the weekend but just wondered if anyone could shed some light...

Thanks

I believe the 19" are an option on the 535 however do not know whether M5 fronts are too wide for 535.

Sorry not much help.

Might be worth nipping onto bm3w.co.uk

then pop into the E60 forum and posting, they'll know

You might just get away with the 285 rears (as long as the mother inlaw doesn't get in)

but i'm afraid the 255 fronts will not clear the 535d's inner wing linings

Hartge wheels are nice but 21" is just silly - the ride will be worse than an Audi S6.

Might be worth posting your question here:

I have been in it with the 21" wheels and the ride was harsher than with the 19"s but seems to handle better..

Handle better? Has he taken it on a track or was this just on roundabouts? Intrigued as I think the 21" wheels make the car look like something £50k cheapereek, but if it makes a real 'noticeable' difference to handling then it may be interesting to buy some for the track.

May be an urban myth, but I was told that fitting oversized alloys to a warrantied BMW will invalidate most warranty claims relating to the running gear and suspension... Did your mate check this and is it true? On M5Board there is a guy in Sweden who had a suspension problem and the warranty claim was refused, allegedly due to non-standard wheels being fitted.

I guess he can just change the wheels every time it goes into the dealer and they'd never know?!

As for M-wheels on a non M-car in my opinion that is sacrilege. The offset will cause issues I think. 4* fronts will be fine though imo.

Non OE wheels make no difference to BMW warranty, I've had nearly every suspension component replaced on my E46 under BMW Warranty. I have a 330, which is fitted with 8.5J*19 235/35 Mich PS2- BBS CH. The offset is the same as OE ACS, whilst BBS make most of the OE BMW/ACS wheels anyway. Moreover, the CH is better constructed than a stock MV wheel. Result, my car actually rides better on the BBS when compared with stock MVs as I don't have the oversized 255/35/18 on the rear axle and it is more balanced with 235/35 all-round. Only poor replicas or wheels of the wrong offset will invalidate your warranty, even then just switch back to OE when you need suspension components.

As I suspected... warranty issue was an urban myth!

Cheers,
