E39 wing mirror

the drivers side wing mirror on me lovely E39 has taken a smack from a drunken oike and needs replacing.

its still attached to the car but it seems to be the black part (rather than the body coloured shell) that is broken (the bit that holds it to the car). does anyone know if this black section is sold separately?

perhaps they can be removed from the shell, so i could buy one from ebay just for the black section. the electrics still work on it. i didnt want to remove it completely to try and take it apart till ive got something to replace it with...

Dealers only sell the whole unit annoyingly. Worth hunting out something on ebay, or look for a second hand from a breakers.

thanks chaps.. made some phone calls.. cheapest 2nd hand is £60. ouch.

guess i'll be keeping an aye on ebay then....
