Not sure about the seats, but the lights are a bit of a pain. The problem with the xenons is they have a different wiring system with something they call ballast (not sure what this is!). But the problems that I have heard is that you need to make sure that the on board computer doesnt think that a light has blown - they have different power requirements and hence its a bit of a nightmare to get it to work..... there are a few people who have done it, but its not cheap or easy. The easier option seems to go for the HID angel eyes which are direct replacements...

Thinking about it though, the seats should be easy(ish). The wiring should be there, but you wont have any buttons for them so quite where you start I am not sure. Seats are readily available but getting the right colour match might not be easy.... mind you, if you crack it do let me know - as an owner of an E39 with leather but NO heated option its a bit grim at the moment....

Hi, re the HID replacements. Where is the best/cheapest place to buy them?

re. seats, I wouldn't think the wiring is there, this isn't saab... It isn't on the 3 at any rate, so not at all cost effective. Don't you just wish people would get the spec right in the first place?

Bit of poking around on Realoem reveals this

www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=DS42&mospid=47556&btnr=52_2923&hg=52&fg=95

Anyone make any sense of it though?

Have a look at www.bmwland.co.uk under the E39 section. A lot of owners retrofitted HID/Xenon, as did I using a kit from www.hids4u.co.uk which I was very happy with. Should be around 200 pounds or so.

I've fitted aftermarket Xenons to the dipped beam of my E39. I bought the kit from HIDS4U for about 200 notes. This kit is compatible with the light control module so will not give you a failled bulb warning. If you buy the proper BMW mounting brackets for the ballasts the installation looks very neat.
