20 " wheels on my e39 need arches
Discussion
Sorry, cant give any technicial assistance, other than you've just screwed up all the good work Alpina have done.
The one of the major things about an Alpina is the 'tuned' suspension, which has now been just 'untuned' with the fitment of the larger (I presume) none Alpina wheels.
Please dont take my post the wrong way, a B10 is a very fine car just the way it is

Alpina were one of the first people to fit 20's as 'standard' back on the E38 7 series 10 years ago.
but the 7 is a bigger car, with bigger wheel arches and softer, non-Alpina suspension.
As Mustard says, they spent a fair amount of time tuning the handlng of the car, and the 20's wont do that any favours.
As for fitting 20's I wouldn't suggest going for a higher offset, as the E39 runs quite a low offset to start with (ET20 IIRC) and with a tyre that wide, higher offset wheels may cause clearance issues with the shock absorber.
What width is the wheel??
Perhaps try stretching a narrower tyre on to bring the outer edge inside the arch more??
Other than that, I dont know, and I certainly dont want to see an E39 with arch extensions

Thats a very handy calculator for figuring out what size tyres to run.
A 265/30 will give you a very similar rolling radius, but will be 20mm narrower, pulling the sidewalls in (which would possibly make it the same overall radius due to the stretched sidewall), and giving you a bit more arch clearance.
Not to mention cheaper tyres
edit: A 245/30 will give you almost exactly the same radius, although you might find it tricky to find a tyre shop who'd be willing to stretch them that much
