Have swapped our order for an X3 3.0 sd for an X5 Diesel Sport.

The car is fitted with the comms pack.

Can someone tell me where the CD player is. We noticed that when you flipped the sat nav screen up that there was a cassette player, but according to BMW's website if it has a comms pack, it is fitted with a professional radion which comes with a CD player. Also I am guessing that the Sat Nav must have a CD player somewhere for the disc.

From memory, professional radio now comes standard with single CD player behind Nav screen - earlier options included a tape player.

Regardless, the Comms pack should include a separate CD changer - locations vary dependant upon model and other options selected.

Ok, the car we are buying is new and unregistered, but there is no cd player behind the screen.

Will double check tomorrow.

multi changer if opted for will be in the nearside access panel in the luggage compartment.
The OBD(screen)should if you press eject have a single Cd.

The 6 CD changer is not actually included in the Comms Pack but is an option.

It is fitted in the compartment in the boot where the Nav DVD is located.

You can get one fitted pretty easily as the wiring is already there. Most dealers will do it for £300 ish.

In the mean time use the AUX port in the centre console with an MP3 player and you might not need a CD player!

(hold the "TV" button for 5 seconds to get audio out)

Btw shouldnt these have been covered at the hand over by the dealer?

After all you should have signed a form that goes to BMW to show he has talked you through them :/

Haven't collected the car yet.

Only agreed to buy it yesterday after a change of mind on an X3.

I remember sitting in the car on Saturday and noticing the fact that it had a tape player.

New-shape X5 or "previous" model (E53)?

If it is the "previous" model, then it will either have a cassette or cd-player under the nav screen, and if equipped, a CD changer in the boot, in the left corner hidden behind a trim piece. The dvd nav computer (MK4) is located in the same place.

Well it is a facelift brand new X5 3.0D Sport.

The car isn't fitted with a CD player and we are having to add a multi changer.

Well the dealer is telling me that the Comms Pack only comes with a cassette?????

I did double check the build date on the car and it is June 06, so it is a current model car. The configerator doesn't appear to show the current X5 any more so I can't see if a cassette is an option.

Seams odd that in this day and age they would specifically build a stock car with a cassette player.

amazing that they still continue to offer cassettes in cars, not sure i have seen a cassette for years, my '03 5 series has one and thought that would be the last time it was ever made.

Something is amiss here because the later cars should have a single play CD behind the nav screen. All newer models have a single play cd player in the front regardless of comms pack or not. The early model cars did have a tape player, and comms pack does not include a cd player.

If this is a new car and does not have cd player, then it must have been built using an older sat nav module, you should be able to talk them into throwing the cd changer in for free because of this.

Catherine,

Fitting a CD player is a POP in an X5.

I fitted one to our X3, and that was in the centre console - much more difficult.

Buy a unit from ebay and save a fortune.

We were quoted over £400 supply and fit for the X3....

Yes the car was built in June 2006.

Not sure about X5 spec, but for 3 series, tape player behind professional radio (nav) screen was replaced with single CD for 04 (2004) new cars.

Would be amazed if a 2006 spec car, regardless of month built, still has a tape player - have to agree with earlier comments - something doesn't seem right here?!?!?!

Do'es the TV pick up free view-ie is it digital..it should be.
worked on a few 56 plate x5's this week,2 had a cd slot,1 had tape.
I will check the options tommorrow as to what comms pack gives you-ie bluetooth, assist etc.tape and cd are dependant on the media pack
