I'm with Rassi on this one. 335d Sport Touring. Your hound will be attached to the tailgate window like one of those stick on Garfields!

Got to be the Touring in one shape or form... X3 not loved by BMW dealers never mind the rest of the trade

We like tourings....

Nearly bought a E30 325i to play with this weekend.....

Ive just done 800 miles in my X3 sd SE and still running it in keeping under 3500 revs as per the manual WHOA what a car its V quick now and ive not nailed it yet. My car spec : sunroof, half leather, tow bar, climate windscreen, lumber suport, de badged, mats, silver grey metalic-black int. The revised X3 looks great IMHO and i must admit i thought the old model looked bloody awful, i am truly impressed its my first BMW and i am a convert, the biuld quality is excellent both inside and out (moved over from porsche owning by the way) Yes i know i have moved a long way, a diesel? a auto? a 4x4? but this car is like the BMW 1150 GS (bike) and i have owned 3 and travelled all over europe on them. Its the best all round car IMHO on the planet bar none. My advice is to pick the body style that suits your needs X3 or 3 or 5 series, as long as its got the twin turbo diesel engine you will not be disappointed, that engine is an absolute GEM.Oh and what made things sweeter still as i had no trade in i got 11% off list, now in my book that makes it a bargin (or more likely what it should cost in the first place) edited to add, if you go for the X3 dont bother with the M sport the revised model does not need the body kit in fact it spoils it, and stick with the standard SE suspension its just right.

Damn this is a tough decision to make.

I have ruled out the 335D on cost.

I am going to make the decision this evening with MOH, so any other points of view will be appreciated.

Just looked at a comparison between the 335i and 335d and fuel consumption. Based upon the consumption of 6.35 miles/litre and 8.11 miles per litre and a cost of 84p and 92p. I would only save about £200 a year buying a diesel (on 10,000 miles per year). Do people think the 335d is the better car on performance (always found small rev ranges a bit dull when driving)

This would be my ranking:

335d > 335i > (1 year old) X5 3.0D > X3 3.0D

Catherine,

It's got to be the 335i M Sport touring. One of my close neighbours has one and it's a very handsome car. I'd love one. They are also supremely competent and go like stink. It'd be 335i over the X3 every day!

if you want a auto then the 335d (with auto standard) isnt really that different in price to a 335i.

if you want manual as I did then the 335i is much better price and faster

i dont really get the 335d, you either want performance (which the 335i is better at) or economy which the 330d, 325d or 320d are much better at.

We currently have a 335d M Sport Touring and a 335i SE Coupe. Both cars have done less than 3,000 miles so not exactly loosened up

The d is returning 32.8 mpg, the petrol engined car about 22mpg. Both are autos.

Both are fabulous cars, effortlessly quick.

I'd go for a manual 335i touring...especially with a nice discount to compensate for the extras that you'll need to put on it..

Ok well we have actually ordered an X3 3.0 sd M Sport.

Whilst I love our 3 series, MOH preferred the driving position in the X3.

It should arrive at the dealers within the next 10 days.

There is immediate delivery on about 14 335i tourings at the moment, if you are prepared to go for an Auto. I basically had quite a pick of them.

I didn't ask about 335D's. In fairness our X3 is the only 3.0sd in the country that was available now. There were about 4 3.0D's and lots of 2.0D's.

No, and there is a reason. The petrol engined car, despite its massive low end torque, encourages you to down shift and launch yourself into the horizon with a roar from the exhausts. The diesel doesn't bring out the hooligan in quite the same way. I don't think you ever get the quoted stats anyway. I never do.

Our 318i is currently doing 33.6 religously.

The manufacturers claimed figure is 38.2

Oddly our M3 religously did 27 when the manufacturers figure was 20.
