I owned a 320cd motorsport convertible until recently and sold it due to horrendous handling, even my bmw dealer could not find the problem round bends it felt like a shocker had gone and used to wander with different cambers of the road, caused a lot of un-nerve to be honest. Also it suffered terrible from scuttle shake and you could feel the car twisting round bends,to be honest after driving my grandfathers 325ci coupe completeley different car, i didnt expect the convertible to feel and drive like this but i was hugely dissapointed with the car just wondered if anyone else had experiences with a similar car??? from a dissapointed gone elsewhere for german engineering PHer...

Got a mate on here who had an MZ3, which scared the life out of him every time he drove it. We had a look at the rear and it has +ve camber (which is none adjustable on the Z).

Recommended he sell it on rather than trying to get it fixed (cheaper, quicker, less hassle), which he did and the replacement MZ3 was fantastic!

He's since moved onto a CSL an M5 and now has added a Z4MC, so it clearly didn't put him off the BMW experience.

I know of another gent who ended up returing his MZ4 for a replacement the first one was so bad.

There do seem to be more 'Friday' cars about from BMW now, but they are building > 1,000,000 cars a year now.

good point about the amount of cars they are building but it still annoys you when you have parted with 30,000 quid.i just hope that there isnt to many dodgy ones about because it can give you a wrong opinion about bmw.

We have an E46 convertible with the sport suspension (the same suspension as yours I would assume?) which I found to be a great improvement over the standard car (felt quite wallowy over a lumpy B road).

It's certainly not as composed as our MG ZT nor does it ride as well but that's not a convertible! I would not say it flexes or wallows particularly though although it doesn't get driven as hard as the ZT.

Generally the M chassis is fairly ridged...If I get any complaints with convertables handling it always points to either a tyre issue-tram lining or more often than not one of the rear road springs has fractured.
as for chassis twist chances are the reinforcment plate under the front of the vehicle has been taken off on a wheel free ramp(2 poster) and then refitted on whell free ramp-
These are meant to be fitted with the car at rest-on all fours.
Another on is on ocassion I have seen the rear suport triangle bolts loose.(down near the jacking blocks and under the diff)
