Noisy differential

The differential on my 2002 330d sport makes a deep groaning sound when I accelerate hard in 5th gear, has anyone else experienced this and if so any ideas on cost of repair?

Is it worth pursuing a claim from BMW, it's done 80k miles

It could just be that you need the fluid replacing.

A number of BMW diffs will "grind" and this is a known problem. The usual solution is to replace the diff fluid with a special differential oil - try BMW part number 83 22 2 282 583.

Had plent of M3 diffs to replace but rarely any others-they are generally bullet proof.
I would drain the oil out-take a clear container and drain some into it and check for contamination/bits of filings.
