I've got to get the oil service done on the 328, and I've enquired about it at both the local BMW stealer, and the recommended specialist local to me.

Question is, seeing as the price is actually cheaper at the Stealer, do I drop it in there?

Obivously I'd get a proper stamp in order to keep my FBMWSH - but what would I expect at a BMW stealer?

Is it just a oil service, or do I, upon picking the car up, expect to supply my own KY?

Crikey that's a new one. Official dealer cheaper than a speciailist independent?

What oil does it use. You do know costco does mobil 1 0w40 for £20+vat for 4 litres?

I'm not adverse at doing it myself, however it'll be needing a new oil filter too, and last time I did it, weeds didn't grow for some time on the drive hehe

I know the car isn't worth much - but seeing as the Specialist wants £130, and the Dealer £135 less 15% for being older than 4 years, I'm thinkning Dealer.

Obviously, I could do it myself - but then the lights don't get reset do they?

Your specialist - erm isn't! That's ridiculous as you're stealer charges heaps (iro£7/litre) for the oil.

I heard about the reduced-rate servicing for older cars when I got mine. Seems like it's actually of some use! It's a pretty good idea for boosting residuals.

It's a rare occurance that the stealer is the cheapest bet, but it does happen. My brother used to have an Audi TT and when he came to replace the Pilot Sports (out of which he'd got 30k miles! But had to swap all four at once) the main stealer was the cheapest he could find. Including a friend of ours who owns a tyre garage and would do it at cost!

Dont even need to jack it up, Vacuum the oil out with this gadget and reset the lights yourself by shorting out a pin for a few seconds - google it.
