remote key not working

Hi. I have a 2000 323i , one of the keys wont work the alarm/locking etc, I thought the battery charges up whilst it is in the ignition! i have tried this but doesn't seem to have done anything, can the battery be changed or is it a main dealer fix?
hope there is a simple solution.

if the key is ok and has had a little charge from being in the ignition then it only needs re initialising-you will need both keys for this as you do them both at the same time.
I dont think i am allowed to put the procedure on here.a dealer will normally do it for free as it is done in the blink of an eye.
If it doesnt work then it is likely to be the key itself but its best for it to be tested on a gt1(diagnosis)to see if the key is talking or there if there is a fault elsewhere
