Folks,
Where can i get a 2nd hand roll cage for my E30 325i - not one that's been crashed and bent, but one out of a car which is no longer used/stripped... any ideas?
Ideally we want a multi point weld in number. Alternatively, where's good to get a new one?
ALSO.. i need an LSD for the same car.. preferably a silly high ratio - 4.73 or something..
Any help would be great..

Probably worth giving the chaps at Munich Legends a ring. They've kitted out plenty of 'trackmeister' E30's
I wouldn't risk fitting a second hand or used one especially if you can't be sure of its history.
I fitted a Custom Cages cage in mine. Fully weld in with bars through to the front struts. I think its circa £590 supplied plus fitting. Alternatively try an OMP cage which is about £300 supplied plus fitting or finally if you can get through to the try Safety Devices which are about £400 plus fitting.
All can be checked out and bought through Demon Tweeks.

Eh? What's wrong with a 2nd hand cage? It's made of steel & has no moving parts & it would be pretty obvious if it's been in a crunch!
Next I'll be reading I shouldn't buy a 2nd hand car as it has used seatbelts & we all know how important that bit of safety kit is.

www.etamotorsport.co.uk will build you a weld in cage to whatever spec and budget you want.

I can see where he's coming from. 2nd hand is of unknown provinence. Would you buy a 2nd hand crash helmet?
Surely a weld-in cage that has been welded, subjected to stresses and strains whilst being in the car originally fitted to, unwelded, and then re-welded in the new car is going to be less strong than a brand new one?
And with the kind of prices being quoted for a new one it's surely a no-brainer?

No it wouldn't be obvious that its been in a 'crunch'. Damage may not be evident to the eye. Remember its there to protect you. Cutting corners to save a few quid might cost you far more than that.Track car / racecar, why risk your life? And as you mention it, no I wouldn't use secondhand seatbelts / harnesses in a RACECAR if I didn't know their history.

All of that (& the other post) could be said for any used car - the body shell will also be subject to stresses & strains etc? This would also imply no market for used race cars. Personally I'd draw the line at used helmets, and possibly used harnesses (however once stretched the wear is fairly evident). However I can't afford a new GT3 but a used on which contains an equally used cage - worth replacing - I'd say no. In the same vein breaking up an ex-racer or track car & selling off the cage - is it that big a deal given the cost/risk ratio?
Without boring the ar*e off everyone, my point is that a new cage is going to cost a couple of hundred quid more than a used / second hand one to buy. Surely for that level of expenditure its better to go with something you know the history of especially when your personal safety is at risk.
