M5 e39 Looking to upgrade the family car to something with more power, the e39 now seems to priced at a very reasonable cost, I know the running costs will be high and am aware of the Vanos issue, what other things do I need to be on the look out for?

This link me be of help.

www.bmwcarclubgb.co.uk/sections/mpwr/M5s/M5E39Extra.htm

Great cars but if buying, you need to have a few £k in reserve should a big bill come along. FSH is a must as is a prepurschase inspection by either a main dealer or a specialist independent. The car must have also been run on the correct Castrol TWS 10w60 oil.

Good luck with your search.

Commies, socialists, other assorted greenslime, not to mention the wailing flail of the leftist, slack jawed faggot hoardes who fiddle about the hedgerow.

Non-urban speed limits and the enforcement thereof, presents it's own, vile, perilous obstacle whilst the ubiquity of middle lane scum (although this category of vermin usually derive from one of the aforementioned groups) are to be abused with no less zeal.

It helps if you drive with an arrogance so overbearing that you need some kind of 'hatred conductor;' simply flicking Vs at lesser peasantry, hoisting 'the bird' and so on, possesses only limited negative currency these days so a period Prussian cavalry headpiece with ceremonial spike, protruding with Wagneric intent to the liberals on high, may do the trick.

Happy schnelling.

I'd say that means "Go buy one and never look back!"

A while ago I think you mentioned that whilst looking on the net, you'd found independents that could do E39 Vanos work for significantly less than the £3,600 per cylinder bank charged by BMW main dealers. Do you have any contact details or prices as I'm thinking of putting an FAQ together with a few relevent links, as more and more PHers are looking at these cars as potential purchases.

hehe Thanks for the vote of confidence in the car. When I bought it from Adam's father I said to Adam that he could have first option when I came to sell. Someone also offered to buy it off me on friday! although tbh I think the car is a keeper. Certainly for the next 3 years, if not longer than that as a third car!

My E39 M5 was a fantastic car and drove all around Europe without a hiccup (unlike my E60!!!).

A real used car bargain provided you pick a good 'un.

Everything you need to know & more can be found here:

Go for it!

Belongs to a good friend who I work with. He's reluctantly selling due to family commitments. The car is like the DAY IT LEFT THE SHOWROOM, just perfect. Look at the interior, it's untouched, clean as a whistle.

Someone needs that car in their life.
