Hi

I've got a knocking noise from the rear suspension on my E36 M3 evo coupe. The cars fine when driving along but if you hit a bump in makes a knocking noise and the car seams to feel quite unstable. Anyone have any idea if the E36 has any week points in its rear suspension set up or have any idea what its likely to be?

Thanks in advance

Andy

Could be a broken coil spring or the rear top mounts could be knact. Either way I'd have it looked at ASAP.

My 318is had two springs fracture - exactly the same symptoms as you describe. Very similar when the suspension bushes fail also.
Its quite common due to the number of speed bumps nowadays.

Shagged out trailing arm bushes in my E36 gave these symptoms. Don't leave it too long or you start to get a bit of rear wheel steer. That can be fecking scary!

I posted a very similar question earlier this week. Almost identical symptoms. It was trailing arm bushes on mine.
