Hi All,

Having spent too much time on track, the time has come to replace both sets of tyres, one for the road and the other for trackdays (although need to be road legal)- both standard size 17", 245s rear, 225s front

I have Bridgestone SO2's on the trackday set and Michelin Pilot Sports on the road wheels.

The Michelin sidewalls must be very weak as they have rolled alot at the front, wearing at least half of the wall!

I am looking for a trackday set which are super sticky but can be driven to and from the circuit - anyone know anything about the ones Evo Magazine have been using on the target 8 minute 'ring car?

Also looking for a road set than I could use at the 'ring, something thats good in the wet - anyone experience of Goodyear F1 Eagles?

All advice welcomed, particularly tyres that are progressive at the limit, which I have found the Bridgestones to be.
Cheers

Simon

Simon,

I have been using the same times as Evo mag, incidently on my M3 GT on track. They are Dunlop D10J's and are 235/40/17 and are now unfortunately discontinued. I know Evo are now using the new versions which if are anything like (or better!) than the D10J's, then they will be superb.

I bought mine in May this year and have done 2 trackdays at Cadwell, one at Croft, one at Mallory plus 2 trips the Ring comprising of 50 laps in total ... one of the trips I also drove from York to Hull ... and Rotterdam to the Ring and back.

I must say, the way they have worn has been amazing .... a mate of mine with a CSL has done the same tracks, the same miles and is on another set of Cups which are also looking a bit worn!!

The first thing that strikes you is how hard the sidewalls are, especially compared to a performance road tyre, which translates to a very hard/noisy ride on the road but lots of bite on track. They're sensitive to pressure and I experimented at anything between 33psi and 31.5psi. Although there are masses of grip, so much that it takes a few laps to get to feel how far you can push them. They're fairly progressive and you can get some sideways action if required with no nasty surprises.

Most people who have been a passenger in my car have been pretty impressed, although all the credit goes to the coilovers (KW3's) and the tyres.

Not sure the name of the new models but I'll certainly be getting some for next season!

PS I'm also running the Goodyear F1 Eagles on the road! Yes, very good tyres although only done about 1500 miles but its been fairly wet recently and I have to say they feel a better than the Michelin PS2's did.

Many thanks for such a detailed response.

Think I'll go with the suggestion.

Cheers
