Just been out for a hoon on the back roads in the M3 (E30) and after alot of 80-100 down to 20 (kms of course) braking the pedal was very wooden and the braking very poor. The pedal is solid but the brakes crap AFAIK the set up is standard. Is this the pads glazing over? And if so is there a cure for the current pads or is it time for an upgrade?

Cheers R5

Almost certainly you have glazed the pads. If they are stock road pads it doesn't take much to toast them. You have a number of courses open to yourself. Fit a more track orientated pad. Ferodo DS2500 would be a vast improvement, or Mintex 1144. From personal experience stay away from EBC Greenstuff, they are nasty. After you have done the pads if you still have the same problem you need to look some additional cooling. This will mean removing the fogs and putting in some brake ducts and backing plates, these will really get the temps down and should improve things by another step, but you will probably not find this necessary for road use. After this is off to AP to get some nice 4 pots (which is were I am at with mine, having been through all the above steps).

Thanks for the input thumbup

I think I'll go for a change of pad (ones you mention) and braided hoses all round with a fluid flush (ATE super blue)

Best get it done next as its rather scary at the minute! Milltek exhaust required too.
