Runflats 'safer' than normal tyres?

According to AutoExpress, fitting 'normal' tyres to a car originally fitted with run-flats is a bad idea and possibly dangerous.

We asked the people most likely to have a whopping profit margin on LazyTyres(tm) and they said that if you didnt fit them, it would kill children and kittens.

FFS, if they had pointed out something like if you revert to tyres with ride quality in them then you might want to adjust the shocks or dampers, then fair enough, but that article doesnt give me great faith in the journalistic integrity of Auto-Express. Betcha if you dig around the tyre chappies PR website, there's a suspiciously similar press release...

You'll also notice all the warnings about low tread depth doubling stopping distances in the wet - mainly in same tyre industry ads campaining for a 3mm minimum. But surely it's not about them wanting to make more money!?
If the tyre companies give me 10mm instead of 8mm to start with then I'd be happy to change my tyres at 3mm. If it was purely in the interests of safety then they wouldn't have a problem doing that - but they're not interested unless it makes more money!
BTW, how come they never mention what the benefits are of bald (below legal tread depth) tyres on dry weather breaking/handing (assuming we get any more dry weather of course).

Genius! So if you replace a set of run-flat tyres with a less capable non-runflat tyre then you may end up with longer braking distances. What a stunning conclusion. Now try comparing those runflats with the market leading tyres such a Michelin's Pilot Sport2 or Goodyears GDS-3 F1...

I got 4 "normal" tyres for LESS than the price of 2 RFT's ( shame its not FRT then i could call them F%^^&& Rubbish Tyres)

You must also remember that according to BMW you will invalidate your warranty, what b........!
Also nearly a £1,000 to replace all four RFT's, against £145 a corner for Michelin Pilots.
