Brake Light Circuit Warning On E36 M3
Discussion
hi guys, does anyone know the part (or even better part number) of the sensor that needs replacing to fix the above? I keep getting a warning on the dash and computer about brake light circuit, when I check the lights are working fine......I've heard this is a common issue but can't find the details. When I cycle the ignition it stops. would appreciate any info.
Some stuff here re. changing the brake pedal sensor: www.bimmerdiy.com/e36
I had this problem and it was solved by replacing the brake light switch under the brake pedal. 'twas a simple job

Its difficult to remove the switch without breaking it but you can unplug it and plug in a new one to check if it fixes your problem, without physically removing your old one. If you do need to replace it, take a look at the red sleeve on the new one and work out how to slide it back on the old one, that will allow you to remove it from the bracket. I only discovered this after completely trashing mine.
