I got your email but can't contact you through your profile.

First off: forget auto mode. It's awful. I tend to keep in S5 with M-track on 90% of the time, and S6 for full hooligan mode

Second: it does take some time to learn how to change gear. I know that sounds like teaching grandma to suck eggs but the more time you spend in the car you'll get a feel for how the car is going to behave. How the car changes gear depends (or seems to, it's like black magic to me) on how fast the car is travelling, how hard you're braking or accelerating etc.

Probably the best tip for smooth changes is to back off the accelerator slightly as yo select a new gear (when accelerating). The timing of the lifting off you can play with. Generally I flip the paddle, back off the accelerator and wait for the gear to engage before pressing on again, though this happens so fast you just have to practice until it becomes second nature.

Braking and changing down is often a little trickier. You can do a similar thing to the accelerating method which I find is not bad when changing down to 2nd and 1st. So, shed the speed with the brakes and make sure you're not braking when you change down. The problem when changing down to second is that you often get caught out when the car is declutching (or that's what it seems like) and you get a lurching sensation. The alternative is to change down first and then brake. Just play around and see - it really does respond to the strength and timing of your inputs.

All IMHO of course.

Of course, all this advice is for pootling around town. When you're pressing on just abuse it with full bore changes - the car loves it

Sent 4 just now to you. (Your work e mail).
:-)

Quick question, who, in their right mind and outside of Bill Gates, would spend over £7,000 on a tin of car polish?

One more, sorry, our local car clean centre charges £80, more than most, for a full outside clean and polish. (Many places do the entire car for £85).
The finish on the paintwork is fantastic after they have done their work, why would anyone want another one percent of shinyness for an outlay of thousands?
Which will be gone after 2 miles of driving anyway!

Just an honest point we were talking about at a car meeting recently.

Thanx.

I'll do it you for £30. thumbup Good guide for cleaning a CSL on tyresmoke.

I went in one yesterday and oh my ing god the sound and grip they have is fantastic. The owner of said vehicle markxw, said he couldn't judge the grip level of the car while he was navigating said steed. Until he went in a PAX ride in another one. Came back with a smile on his face he did. thumbup

Thanks for the rides Mark. When I get round to it I'll upload the video from the day.

I am really loving the car so far, if a bit radical and less comfy than what i am used to!

The sound is truly awesome, i agree.

Couldnt figure out why everyone was quite quiet in the passenger seat, since it all seemed fairly serene with the benefit of a wheel to hold on to. Then i had a ride in someone else's! Would love to see that video PB!!

I could do a whole host more for that. I wouldn't call myself an expert but I do like a clean shiny car. I've gotten more and more into it while I've had my clio and think that I'm pretty good at it. Only thing I can't do is remove those blasted swirl marks. I don't have the money to buy a porter cable to do them at the minute.

Well I'm up in Leeds at the minute at uni, but that wouldn't be any good to you as all the cleaning gear is stored at me parents in Nottingham. I will be back on 27th October, which is a Friday, probably won't be back till late. Might be able to do Saturday, but I'm going to see MPH'06 so Sunday would be best, 29th October.

Otherwise the next time I'm back will be weekend of 11th November, for Virginia Waters. So if you were going to that and wanted your car cleaned before hand that would be a good time.

Any of those times is good for me mate. You could bring your motor round to mine, but probably easier if I come over to yours, otherwise you'll be sat doing nothing at mine.

Oops, I was just gonna send you an email, but you haven't got them activated through your profile. If you could email me through mine then we can get something a bit more concrete arranged, and I can go into detail about what I will do for you.
