About 3 months ago i sold my A8 4.2 and bought a 540 touring as i needed the boot space.

I'm really not getting on with the Beemer at the moment which is a real shame. It seems to have no torque down low- as in i am usually driving with my foot flat on the floor, or in manual to hold the car in a gear, otherwise i am just going really slowly.

does this sound familiar? i have had the car serviced recently and gave it a really really good blast to try and clean it out a bit- it's very low mileage having only done 28,000 warranted miles.

the A8 had bucket loads of torque and a great top end- i could gently waft a long but then pick up speed without drama- it would also drop a cog at 105 and really boot it to 130- the 5 just won't do this- it gains speed happily enough but it's not the same.

basically the V8 feels underpowered unless it is having it's bollox revved off it. i am ver disappointed.

That doesn't sound right at-all, the v8 engines have shed loads of torque.
Perhaps your MAF is faulty.

i've had my 540i sport touring manual for 3 months now and im blown away by the performance, it has bucket loads of torque in any gear, just cant imagine anyone finding the 540 lacking in performance, would get it to a good indy to get it checked out asap.

thanks guys,

i had two crank sensors and an O2 sensor replaced yesterday and the car now feels a millions times better - much more powerful, much smoother, and more economical, as you might expect if those items weren't working.

tahnks for the advice
