Hello from a new Beemer owner
Discussion
Hello fellow Beemer owneres. I never thought I would own a BMW having always stereotyped you all, however, on return from our honeymoon, my new wife and had 3 days in which to buy a new motor. We drove loads of things, TT's, Nissan 350Z, S2000s etc and I suspect you see a theme developing here. Until about 12 months ago, the last 3 cars that I've owned have been pretty quick, S3, Griff 500, S8 but since we started the extension at home, I've had to make do with Brutus.
Anyway, my wife has started a new job a no longer needs to have a fuel effecient Golf TDi, and she wanted a quick, open top 2 seater before we settle down and hopefully have kids. As most of the money being put into her car is mine, I felt that I could have some say in the short list and so suggestd we had big engines rather than turbos and it had to have a bit of go about it, which negated the MX5 that she was after. Her heart was set on an old shape 3.2 TT which I have to admit was quite quick and sounded right, but didn't quite handle as I wanted. I managed to convince her to try a Z4 (she was equally anti-BM at this point) because I love the styling and like them or not, you can't argue with BMW's build quality. So, we pottered off down to Rydale Central and met very possibly the best car salesman I've ever met. I had aleady spoken to him and told him the kind of thing I was after and expected to see a second hand 3.0. However, he put us in and Z4 M Roadster demonstrator that they have there. I told him that we probably couldn't affort that, but he took us out regardless. Anna went first (as it's more her car than mine) and she came back with a huge smile on her face - which is good. Then I got a go and was equally impressed.
So, convinced the Beemer was the way forward, we told Karl to find us the best car that he could for the money we wanted to spend and went off for a cuppa. When we got back he was looking very pleased with himself and told us that for our monthly budget, he could put is in the 4 month old ex-demonstrator M roadster that they had. The deal seemed so good that it took me the best part of half an hour to decide to go ahead with it as I was sure that there was a catch somewhere, but no.
So, we are now the pround owners of 06 BMW Z4 M Roadster, and I love it. It's soooooo much more than I could have hoped: comfortable, reliable, well spec'd and fast - so much so that ignoring straight line speed, it's quicker then the Griff. I'm also very impressed with the pre and post-sale service that we have received from BMW.
So overall, quite impressed.

I suppose if you can't handle a Griff and need all those electronic "catch-me's" to do the driving for you.... it's OK!

Exactly the kind of experience you should get from a good dealer and a good salesman.
People are too quick to criticise main dealers for charging too much, but when you are spending a lot of money, a good customer experience and peace of mind are also very important, and worth paying a little extra for.
Problem is too many BMW dealers are now owned by PLC's and they want to employ cheap robotic shop assisants who can follow a script rather than experienced skilled salesman who can read different situations, and act accordingly. These kind of salesman are becoming quite rare in the BMW network.

Bought my 1er from Rydale Central too, dealt with Everton Morgan, pleasure to deal with and nothing has been too much trouble for them.
I played the deal straight, telling them what they needed to do to get my business, ie, 12 months RFL, 36k servicing pack etc. Ended up with a great deal. Now looking to replace wifey's car with an E90, so I guess I know where I'll be going.....
I now get 10-20% discount on parts too.....
I hear so many complaints about BMW dealers, mainly through having owned 2 MINIs, both dealers I've dealt with elsewhere have lived upto this reputation, Rydale don't.
