Hi guys,
It looks like an X5 might be on the cards very soon but just don't know which model so need help.

From what I have been told that in the real world the 4.4 is just as economical as the 3.0, true?

After going through autotrader.com prices on the 4.4 seem to be very good, usually a few grand less than the equiv 3.0. Is the price saving balanced by the servicing costs? There doesn't seem to be much between them on insurance either.

Any feedback on both models would be great

Thanks

I've had a 4.4 and averged about 16-20 mpg, i recall the 3.0 isn't much better, having to work hard to lug a big car about. Oh the V8 sounds alot better as well

Did you like it?

I don't think I have heard the 4.4, does it have a nice 'muscle' tone then?

Id throw the 4.6/4.8iS into the equation too!

I get 18mpg average from my 4.6iS and it can still put the frightners on alot of so called sports cars!

I have a 4.8is and it is a fantastic machine.

Big V8 noise aside, it goes like the wind and returns 17mpg even though driven pretty hard everywhere. Sure it won't keep up with a 911 or similar, but there's not much that can get past when I want a go!

I had a 630i cab earlier this week, and the 3.0 struggled to cart its 1.9 tons around with any gusto unless you had the throttled wide open and plenty of revs; consequently 17mpg. Given that, I suspect an X5 with the same unit would struggle even more so surely the only choice is:

economy: diesel
performance: V8

I'm surprised by this actually as the 3.0 265bhpi engine is superb, it feels muscular & torquey in our manual Z4Coupe (1350kg) whilst delivering a solid 25mpg all round and easy 30mpg @ 80-85mph cruise.

Yeah loved the 4.4 infact its been replaced by a Range Rover with the same engine.
Its does have a nice 'muscle' tone although a bit quieter in the Range Rover
